Games and PE at High Wycombe Church of England Combined School

At High Wycombe Church of England School, we are motivated to teach PE because it gives every child the opportunity to be creative, cooperative and competitive whilst participating in a broad spectrum of activities.  It allows us all to improve our health, acknowledge achievements and develop positive relationships.  PE helps our children flourish and become more strong and courageous in facing challenges in everyday life.

PE is an area of the curriculum about which we are extremely passionate.  Through physical activity, we support children to develop a variety of skills, cooperate as a team or strive independently and find enjoyment with various sports and games.   We embed physical activities into as many of the other curriculum subjects as possible across the school to allow for memorable experiences.

Our aim in PE is for all children to understand the benefits of physical activity and how it can support physical and mental wellbeing.  Our objective by the end of Key Stage Two is to be able to provide each child with a multitude of knowledge and skills to support their physical and mental health.

In Key Stage Two, we support the children in swimming lessons and aim for them to be able to swim 25 metres.  Our aim is to enable them to achieve this before they finish their primary education.

Physical literacy is a crucial element in our vision.  We consider how to motivate each individual, provide them with all the knowledge they need to maximise their potential, ensure they have various skills that can be adapted to the physical activity in which they are participating and finally help them to feel confident and happy with what they are doing.
