Common Butterfly - Red Admiral
Rare Butterfly - Common Blue
Autumn term:
We began the year identifying two different butterflies Red Admiral Butterfly and Common Blue Butterfly and exploring some of their different features. We had tremendous fun discussing the different foods Common Blue butterflies eat, such as birds' foot trefoil and planting some seeds in smaller pots in our Forest School area. We have looked after these seeds whilst they have been growing over autumn and in preparation for planting them around the school later in the spring/ summer.
We also got creative by exploring the different colours of both butterflies and exploring the differences between male and female butterflies, especially with Common Blue butterflies. The children explored the differences before painting some butterflies to share and display in our classroom.
