At HWCE, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which sets the standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years old. The EYFS provides a secure foundation for all children, ensuring they are supported to grow into happy, confident, and independent learners.
We believe that children learn best through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. Our Early Years environment is carefully designed to spark curiosity, promote creativity, and encourage positive relationships.
Our dedicated staff observe, support, and extend children's learning in a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child feels valued and respected.
The EYFS curriculum is divided into seven key areas, split into two categories:
Communication and Language – Developing speaking, listening, and understanding.
Physical Development – Encouraging coordination, control, and movement, as well as healthy choices.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Building confidence, managing emotions, and forming positive relationships.
Literacy – Introducing reading and writing through stories, songs, and mark-making.
Mathematics – Exploring numbers, shapes, patterns, and simple problem-solving.
Understanding the World – Learning about people, places, technology, and the environment.
Expressive Arts and Design – Encouraging creativity through music, art, dance, and imaginative play.
