  • Art and Design Curriculum Offer- Implementation

Art and Design at HWCE is taught through a well-sequenced curriculum- based on the Kapow Scheme of Work- from EYFS to Year 6, ensuring progression in both skills and knowledge. Lessons include the exploration of various media and techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and digital art. Pupils build on prior learning, revisiting and refining techniques while developing a personal artistic voice.

Teachers use sketchbooks as a working space for children to explore ideas, practise techniques, and reflect on their creative journey. Each unit includes the study of artists, designers, and craftspeople from a variety of backgrounds, time periods, and cultures to broaden pupils’ perspectives and promote cultural understanding. Where appropriate, links are made with other curriculum areas to enrich learning and provide meaningful contexts.

Children also have opportunities to take part in art clubs, whole-school curriculum mornings as well as visits to local galleries or exhibitions. These experiences enhance cultural capital and provide real-life contexts for artistic exploration.
