Modern Foreign Languages at High Wycombe Church of England School

At High Wycombe C of E School, we believe that learning a new language challenges children to be strong and courageous by stepping outside their comfort zone, trying new things, and communicating in unfamiliar ways. It is through this process that children grow in confidence, resilience and independence.

Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) gives our pupils the chance to explore and appreciate cultures beyond their own, developing a spirit of respect for difference, compassion for others, thankfulness for diversity, and a desire to contribute to peace within our global community. These values underpin our approach to MFL and support all learners in becoming open-minded, outward-looking individuals.

MFL is taught weekly across Key Stage 2 using the Language Angels scheme. Lessons are interactive, engaging and inclusive, combining speaking, listening, reading and writing with songs, games, role-play and real-world scenarios. This rich curriculum allows all children to flourish - regardless of their starting point - while developing a lifelong love of languages.

We want every child to leave our school not only with a strong foundation in language learning, but also with the courage, compassion and curiosity to connect with others and play a positive role in our multicultural world.
