  • MFL Curriculum Offer - Impact

As a result of our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum, pupils at High Wycombe C of E School achieve clear and measurable progress in their language learning. By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils can:

    • Understand and respond to spoken and written language with increasing accuracy and confidence.

    • Speak with appropriate pronunciation, using full sentences and a growing range of vocabulary.

    • Write short passages using familiar sentence structures and correct grammatical features.

    • Apply their knowledge of key vocabulary and grammar in a variety of contexts, both in and beyond the classroom.

    • Reflect on language structure, recognising similarities and differences between the language studied, English, and any home languages.

    • Demonstrate an appreciation of different cultures and show respect and empathy for people from other backgrounds.

Through regular informal assessment, end-of-unit tasks, and pupil voice, we see clear evidence that children retain key language knowledge and use it with increasing fluency. They enjoy lessons, contribute confidently, and demonstrate the resilience needed to try new language structures and vocabulary without fear of failure.

The impact of our MFL curriculum extends beyond academic achievement. Pupils develop cultural awareness, broaden their worldview, and leave Year 6 with the curiosity and confidence to continue their language journey into Key Stage 3.
