    Maths at High Wycombe Church of England School

    At High Wycombe C of E, we are inspired by God’s love for us to be strong and courageous, taking on challenges, knowing that He is always with us. We provide a safe and supportive environment in which all children can flourish in mathematics.

    We offer a varied and stimulating curriculum that ensures every child can make progress, and be appropriately challenged, through a fully inclusive approach. Mathematics is a vital life skill, and with this in mind, the purpose of Mathematics at High Wycombe C of E is to develop:

    • fluency and confidence in using and applying mathematical knowledge, concepts and skills;

    • reasoning skills to think logically, explain ideas clearly, and work systematically and accurately;

    • problem-solving strategies that encourage perseverance, initiative, and creativity;

    • motivation and resilience to work both independently and collaboratively;

    • confidence in communicating mathematics, where pupils ask and answer questions, share their thinking openly, and learn from mistakes;

    • connections across the curriculum and to everyday life, recognising the relevance of mathematics in the world around them;

    • a sense of curiosity and enjoyment, nurturing awe and wonder in mathematical discovery.

    In doing so, we prepare pupils not only to succeed academically but also to flourish in their lives beyond school - using mathematics with courage, confidence and purpose in God’s world.
