Practice times tables daily – Use games e.g. bingo
Calculation
Children should be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.
Use the calculation methods booklet for our school to support your children. Check with your child which method they are using.
Shape
Play guess the 3D shape. Describe a 3D shape by its properties (Edges, Vertices, Sides) and see if your child can guess the shape you’re describing.
Play battleships in a four-quadrant grid
Measures
Weight/Capacity ~ Cook with your children. Ask them to read the scales/measuring jug and convert the measurements between litres and millilitres, grams and kilograms.
Length ~ Area and perimeter. Ask children to estimate the area and perimeter of different items around the house and when you’re out, e.g. the table, football pitch, car parks, T.V. Children use different measurements and convert between millimetres, centimetres and meters.
Time ~ Ask children questions linked to time. E.g. If we set off on our journey now, and it takes 48 minutes, what time will we get there?
Handling Data
Use information that children enjoy, e.g. football scores, and ask them to calculate the mean, mode, median and range.
