Week 1

We have had a busy week back after half term, full of fun activities. In Literacy, we had a go at performance poetry. The children worked in small groups to create actions for insect poems and performed to the class. In Maths, we have been looking at the 2 and 5 times tables.

In PE, we have started our new unit on gymnastics. This week we practiced different types of jumps. In History, the children were pictures detectives trying to find clues in photos from the past to help guess the location, to start the new topic on our local area. In Science, we are looking at Plants this half term. We explored the school grounds to find different leaves, and then sorted them into different groups.

Thursday was World Book day and we had lots of fun sharing our favourite books and showing the class our costumes. We made a list of Year 1's Recommended Reads, which will be uploaded below. Our featured author for the day was Nathan Bryon, and we looked at his book 'Clean Up'.

Friday was international day, where the children had the opportunity to work across Year 1 and 2, looking at Poland, Uruguay and the USA. The children played volleyball- a popular sport in Poland, and made candombe drums (native to Uruguay) and dream catchers (linked to Native American culture).
