Lent Challenges – Be the change…Care for the Environment
Week 5 - 20th March 2023
This week our ‘Care for the Environment’ challenges have been:
- Start a scrap paper pile for drawing to save paper.
- Litter pick around school.
- Save energy by turning off the lights when you leave a room.
- Try to avoid using any plastic that you throw in the bin, like straws.
- Walk to school or park further away.
Class Collective worship:
In our Class Collective Worship, we thought about how what we think the most wonderful thing is in nature. We thought about the story of God making a beautiful garden – our world and the job that he gave to Adam and Eve, which was to look after all that he had made. We reflected on these questions:
- I wonder if this is something we are all responsible for?
- I wonder what you think about the challenges of caring for our world today?
- I wonder what God might say when he looks at the world now?
We then made paper chains out our recycled paper and wrote on the strips what actions we are going to take to look after our world.
Pupil Thoughts:
I wonder if this is something we are all responsible for?
- “If there is only one person wanting to change then there will be no difference, everyone needs to help.” – Andrey
- “There is too much carbon dioxide because people drive their cars too much, we should start to walk.” – Alexander
- Bethany – I think it is because God said it was our responsibility as humans, Adam and Eve couldn’t have done it all themselves.
- Anant – Is this about us being responsible for looking after world, or being responsible for damaging the world? Some people try and help the environment for the next generation.
I wonder what you think about the challenges of caring for our world today?
- Reuben – at home I only use resuable metal straws
- Joshua – I’ve litter picked at home and only use scrap paper
- Joshua – we have to tackle pollution and change our habits to use plastics
- Harry – temptation to take the less environmentally friendly route like Eve
- Geethika – A lot of people try to care for the planet, but those that are in charge at not doing much. They are able to control the whole country. For example: if the Government said we could not drive for certain days there would be less pollution.
I wonder what God might say when he looks at the world now?
- “I think that God would think that we have destroyed our planet because we litter and we do not take of it like we should.”
- Daniel – I think that he will think we have not cared for it enough. There was no pollution, or tree cutting with Adam and Eve compare to today. We have cut down a lot of trees.
- Robyn – I think he will be disappointed, we have been selfish exploiting the planet to live.
- Alex – I think he will be happy with those that are trying to make the environment a better place. Those destroying the planet he will not be happy with.
