A growth mindset is the notion that we can improve our intelligence, ability and performance if we work hard, learn from our mistakes and willingly accept feedback. The opposite, a fixed mindset, is the belief that a person's intelligence, ability and performance are set in stone and cannot be altered.
Pupils with a growth mindset believe that ability can change as a result of effort, perseverance, and practice. You might hear them say, “Maths is hard, but if I keep trying, I can get better at it.” Students with a growth mindset see mistakes as ways to learn, embrace challenges, and persist in the face of setbacks.
