PE and Sports Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

PE and Sport Premium Funding

At High Wycombe C of E we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Primary School’s Sports Funding
Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

What is the Sports Premium?
The government is providing funding for all state primary schools in two installments (October 2022 and April 2023) to provide additional and sustainable provisions of PE and sport. Allocations for the academic year 2022 to 2023 are calculated using the number of pupils in years 1 to 6, as recorded in the January 2022 census, as follows:

  • schools with 17 or more pupils receive £16,000 plus £10 per pupil
  • schools with 16 or fewer pupils receive £1,000 per pupil

Purpose of the funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision, providing additional and sustainable provisions of PE and sport, for the benefit of all primary aged children 2022-23; to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Schools have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses of the funding include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • Healthy Heroes Week
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits
