Week 3

It was delightful to welcome the children back into school this week.  They came back with so much energy and enthusiasm, by Tuesday, it felt we had never been away!  They have settled back into school so well and are no doubt tired out and ready for the weekend!

We have had additional time this week to think about mental health and wellbeing and the children have been really engaged with this.  They created feelings rainbows and everyone made a puzzle piece of things they were looking forward to now we are back at school together.  We also considered 'belonging' and each child created a chain for a class paper chain with their name and what they are going to contribute to the class they belong to.  There are lots of thoughtful children in Year One!

In Maths this week, we have recapped some of the learning completed remotely.  We have thought about counting forwards and backwards in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s, and finding one more and less for numbers.  We will recap addition and subtraction next week.

We have started a two week unit about instructions and thought about commands that are sometimes given to us - 'Get dressed! and 'Tidy your room.' featured.  Children practised giving each other and a beebot instructions and also gave me some commands to help me know how to wash my hands, before they made some instructional posters to help others understand how to wash their hands.

We have played different playground games throughout the week.  Pirate Ship, The Bean Game and Grandma's Footsteps were particular favourites.

Following our Mondrian lesson last week in our new topic 'Colour Chaos', we looked at a different artist this week - Mark Rothko, and explored mixing secondary colours.  Do you like our colour fields?
