Forces eggsperiment

For Science Day, we tried to use what we had been learning about forces to conduct an investigation where we had to complete an 'egg-drop challenge'.

Our task was to try to find a way to protect an egg when it was dropped from the top of the steps to the top playground onto the lower playground.

We worked in groups and were given the following equipment to help: a plastic bag, a piece of felt cloth, some bubble wrap, some string, a balloon, sellotape, part of the egg carton and a piece of cardboard - and, of course an egg!

We discovered that Year 6 were undertaking this challenge too - so it became a bit of a competition!

We found out that the best designs involved a working parachute to increase wind resistance to stop the egg falling too fast and plenty of padding around the egg to withstand the force as it hit the tarmac.

Mr Smith helped to make sure it was a fair test by launching all of our designs. Thank you to him.

Let us all remember those brave eggs who risked their shells in the name of science:

Eggwina, Eggward, Freggy Mercury, Aleggsander the Great, Egglentine, Eggatha and Egg Sheeran!
