Global Awareness Day

International HWCE

At HWCE we think it is important to understand about how other people live in different countries across the world. We spend a day per term working with children in our house teams and learning about 4 different countries. We think about what life is like for children in these countries and how it differs from how we live. They develop a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about others and the world around them and are encouraged to accept, respect and celebrate diversity.

In the afternoon on these days we look at Uganda and St Michael's School as we are developing our e-twinning link with them. Every year we will complete a project which we send over to them to help them understand what life is like for us. They send us some work and information about them too. This promotes mutual respectthankfulness, tolerance and compassion in the children.

Global Awareness Day - 7th October 2022

For our Autumn Term Global Awareness Day, the children explored a wide range of different countries, such as Canada, Italy, Brzail and Thailand. They learnt about the culture and lifestyle in each country and had a go at comparing them to their own country. In the afternoon, they learnt about the upcoming COP27 summit and their attention was drawn to the subject of climate change and each class had a go at thinking of solutions to combat climate change.
