Implementation

At High Wycombe C of E school we have chosen French as our MFL.

Each year group in KS2 has a weekly French session of approximately 45 minutes. A variety of techniques are used to encourage the children to have an active engagement with French.

Games, role plays, mime, action songs and work sheets or puzzles are all used to ensure maximum enjoyment and participation.

The main emphasis is on listening and responding. Linking word to text with early reading practice is also important. Simple writing skills are developed during KS2.

Lessons aim to be enjoyable and non-threatening with success built in at every level, so that the children develop a positive attitude to the learning of a foreign language. Confidence and good self-esteem are built up through positive reinforcement for any contribution they make.
