Week 1

Here we are, finishing the first week back of our final half term in Year 5!

In Literacy we have started our new class text - The Secret Garden. We have started reading the book and watching the film to support our ideas for writing. To start off, we have explored the key events that occur during  the start  of the story and explored Mary's emotions as she moves to a new country and meets new people. We have written in role as Mary, choosing a place in the story to write a diary entry.

In Maths we have been improving our knowledge of time and money. We have focused on problem solving and applying methods accurately.

In other subjects, we wrote persuasive letters to try and convince people to stop wasting water, in RE we had a class debate about whether it is ever ok to lie, continued learning about Disraeli's Laws, investigated different running techniques in PE and during DT we built and tested different pillars.

Friday was International Day. We have been busy learning about other countries. We created an information booklet about High Wycombe to send to St Michaels in Uganda. We then look at Denmark and created our own front covers for Hans Christian Andersen's stories. Finally, we looked at the UAE. We designed camels for racing and as Dubai has the tallest building in the world, we worked in teams to see who could build the tallest tower.

This is going to be an exciting half term - check back for pictures to see what we have been up to each week.
