Week 1

I hope you all had a lovely half term and the children had a good rest.  They have come back with lots of energy and ready for more learning which is great!

In literacy this week we have begun our next narrative unit on fairy tales.  We have started by exploring the features of a fairytale and hearing and retelling the story of Cinderella in our storytelling circle.

Maths has been all about measures!  We have looked at using a ruler to measure smaller objects and a metre stick to measure larger items in the classroom.  Measuring the length of the hall was a particularly exciting event!

In RE we started to think about our new theme...it's never too early to think about CHRISTMAS!  We discussed how Christians believe Jesus was sent as the 'saviour' to save the world.  We have started making posters considering what practical measures we can take to save the world.

In PE we had an 'alternative PE' lesson looking at archery this week as well as playing some playground games.

We will be following Design and Technology rather than art this half term with a focus on moving vehicles and we started by looking at various vehicles and thinking about their features.

History will be our topic this half term and we are very excited about our Great Fire of London workshop next week.  This week we thought about how London has changed since the 17th Century.

Finally, we had a wonderful time during our whistle stop tour on International Day. We welcomed Mrs Connelly into the class to talk about South Africa. We flew to Vietnam and finally stopped off in The Gambia to write some autumn poems for our friends there.  We finished the day learning about important people in Black History and singing ‘This Little Light Of Mine’ beautifully with Year 1.

A great first week back one and all!  I am looking forward to this busy but fun packed half term. :-)
