Lent Challenges – Be the change…New Friends
Week 1 - 22nd February 2023
This week our ‘New Friends’ challenges have been:
- Invite somebody new to join in with your game.
- Play with a child from a different year group.
- Find out something new about somebody.
Class Collective worship:
In our Class Collective Worship, we thought about Friendship. We heard about how Jesus chose the 12 disciples to be his friends and reflected on these questions:
- I wonder how it felt to be chosen by Jesus?
- I wonder what we can learn about friendship from this story?
- I wonder if our friendships can also change lives?
- We were left with the challenge…Who can you make friends with today?
Pupil Thoughts:
How it felt to be chosen by Jesus
- The class said it would have made them feel very special to be chosen by Jesus to be his special friend.

- excited because you are with someone who is respectful and loving to you.

- It might have felt shocking as it is new, and wonderful to be Jesus’ friend
|
- Exciting, astonished, special, honoured, grateful, speechless, happy, surprised
|
What we can learn about friendship from the story
- After talking about who was our best friend, we all decided that Jesus was our friend too because he is always there to talk to if we need him.

- if we make new friends then we won’t have to be alone.
|
- We can learmn about friendship You can’t just chose friends that are rich, you can chose different people people that have no friends.
|
- You can make friends with anyone
|
- You don’t need to choose someone who’s perfect.
|
How our friendship can change people’s lives
- We reminded ourselves of the passage from Joshua 1:9 “Be strong & courageous, do not be afraid, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you may go.”

- They can change lives as they can make us feel happy
|
- Make people happy when they are sad
|
- Yes, they can, without friends you will not be the same person.

Friends Challenges
- James asked Flynn (year 3) to play catch
- Kevin learnt about Alfie’s favourite colour.
- Jerry found out when Denis’ birthday is and played a game with Arosa in year 6.
- Hannah and Abigail found about Megan’s favourite colour.
- Girls plays with Lois in year 3
- GG played with Kai from year 6 and Stephanie from year 3.
