Week 4

Our second week back in school together!

In Literacy we have begun to investigate a new text type. We will be working on Explanation texts for the next couple of weeks and this week introduced us by looking at some existing examples and identifying the key features. Year 4 did a great job at this and identified some strong links between other text types in Literacy. We worked on a carousel activity so we could have a discussion about the features and produced some very helpful information sheets for our Literacy display!

In Maths this week we have been using written methods to solve problems that use multiplication and division. We are using partitioning and the grid method for multiplication problems, and the use of a number line for division problems both of which encourage us to practise our times tables knowledge and related facts.

On Friday we participated in raising money for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day, for which we created a 'Try Not to Laugh Challenge' and dressed up for the occasion, wearing as much red as possible or dressing as superheroes... we may have even uncovered the true identity of Batman!

This week we have also...

Learnt about the complicated family tree behind the Wars of the Roses in History using some helpful volunteers for a bit of drama, interpreted some sets of data in Geography as we compare High Wycombe with a small village in Kent, discussed our rights and responsibilities - personally and in the communities we belong to, had a go at writing our first explanation text about our Science learning in Cross-Curricular Write and, in Music, we worked in small groups to start to compose some simple pieces of Music together.
