  • School Open Thurs 14 Jan at 10.00am - click for details

    Thu 14 Jan 2010
We intend to open on Thursday morning but because of the forecast of icy conditions we will start at 10am. Some staff and pupils are travelling from areas that are very icy and therefore they need time to arrive safely.

Obviously weather conditions may change overnight so we advise parents to check this website before setting off for school in the morning. We will also text parents if there are any changes.

Thursday will again be a NON-UNIFORM DAY.  The children must have warm clothing, along with suitable footwear for the snowy conditions - wellies are a must if the children are to go outside. They should also have a change of footwear (e.g. plimsolls) for using indoors.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support during these extremely difficult weather conditions.

Thank you also to those parents who were able to help clear Loakes Road and the parking areas which I am sure will make access tomorrow much easier.

  • School OPEN Monday 11th January - click for details

    Sun 10 Jan 2010

Please note that we intend to OPEN on Monday 11th January.

A huge thank you to all who helped clear the school site today. It was a real team effort and the huge turnout of parents made light work of the task ahead of us.

Children should come straight into school in the morning, the registers will remain open until 9.30a.m to allow staff and children to travel to school safely.

Monday will be a NON-UNIFORM DAY the children must have warm clothing, along with suitable footwear for the snowy conditions - wellies will be a good choice. They should also have a change of footwear (e.g. plimsolls) for using indoors.

Unfortunately we will not be able to open the playground at the end of the day because it is not totally cleared and I do not think it would be safe to do this.

We look forward to seeing you all.

  • Snow clearing working party needed - 12.30pm Sunday 10th Jan Click for more details

    Sat 09 Jan 2010

Snow Clearing Working Party - 12.30 pm Sunday 10th January.

We hope to try and open the school on Monday, weather permitting.

So, if you are able and willing, please come and help us to clear the snow on Sunday. Please bring shovels, brooms, etc. We prefer not to have children on site whilst we are clearing as we cannot supervise and guarantee that they will be safe. Please do not drive into Loakes Road as it is very icy and we also need to clear this area first. Suffield road is free on Sundays.

Should we have to cancel the Work Party we will let you know by text and on this website.

Many thanks for your continued understanding

    Mrs Hawkins

  • School closed tomorrow, Thursday 7th Jan, due to snow and the forecast of icy conditions over night

    Wed 06 Jan 2010
Unfortunately we have not seen the last of the snow and County have asked us to be prepared for informing parents of any decisions to close the school. Our policy is as follows:

In the winter we need to advise you of the County’s and school’s procedures for notifying parents of a school closure due to extreme weather conditions.

A decision to close the school is most likely as a result of:

    · Severe weather conditions or other reasons preventing many staff and pupils from getting to school safely.
    · Heating failures
The decision is taken by the Headteacher in consultation with both the Chair of Governors and the Senior Area Adviser. We always endeavour to make that decision as early as possible, but do please remember that it may take some time to ascertain how many staff may be able to reach school and indeed that often Mrs Hawkins is personally trying to make the decision from a distance, and is reliant on the feedback from staff who live locally.

In the event of a decision to close our school we will:

    · Submit details immediately using the Bucks SchoolsWeb site – this will trigger an e-mail alert to the Passenger Transport team and to relevant radio stations. Parents and Radio stations will be able to access a list of schools that are closed on the Parent Zone area of SchoolsWeb accessible from the BCC Learning home page at buckscc.gov.uk, select, ‘Education’, ‘Schools’ and then ‘closures’. Our Radio stations broadcasting news of closure will be BBC Three Counties Radio
    · The school website will be updated with the details and a text message will be sent to parents.

NB! You will have recieved a newsletter today asking you to request to be phoned if the school has to be closed and return the request slip to school. If the school is closed tomorrow we will phone using the emergency chain procedure as usual to ensure no-one is missed! Please refer to the newsletter 12 (sent out today) and the soft copy on our website home page for more information.
